## Pipeline

Meta runs two parallel loop formats in Q2 2026:

1. **Traditional loop** (scheduled before April 16, 2026): recruiter screen → CodeSignal OA (some pipelines) → 1× phone screen (Tag-list, 45 min) → onsite (2× coding + system design + behavioral, often spread across 3 days).
2. **AI-Native loop** (mandatory on or after April 16, 2026): same front-end, but onsite swaps to **2× AI-Enabled Coding (60 min each)** + **AI-Enabled SWE System Design (45 min, new)** + **AI-Oriented Behavioral (45 min)**. A few pipelines still preserve one traditional SD slot.

MLE / RS tracks substitute one or both coding rounds with **ML System Design** plus a **project deep-dive**. Data Engineer candidates go through a separate **AI-Native Full-Stack** round.

## Typical timeline

- Recruiter screen → phone screen: ~1 week.
- Phone screen → onsite: 2-3 weeks scheduling; the onsite itself spans 3-5 days.
- Onsite → HC decision: 1-2 weeks.
- Team match after HC: 1-8 weeks depending on req availability.

## Reject + cooldown signal

Q2 2026 reports show a noticeable uptick in "passed every round but rejected at HC + 1-year cooldown," attributed to ongoing reorgs and tightened HC. Team-match-stage stalls are also common — recruiters often go silent for 3-6 weeks before either a team match or a final no.

By late May–June 2026 the freeze hardened further: some candidates who cleared every round received a follow-up that the specific role they interviewed for is no longer being filled, and team match has stalled for weeks with recruiters citing limited open headcount. Outcomes are uneven, though — other candidates in the same window still reached team match within days of HC, so a strong loop is not wasted. Ask the recruiter directly about open-req availability both before and after the loop.

## New-grad cohort variation

A 2025 new-grad pipeline used OA → three onsite coding rounds → one behavioral round, with no separate system-design slot. The loop occurred two weeks after the OA and the offer arrived by portal email about two weeks later, without a verbal-offer call. Treat this as cohort-specific: confirm the exact round mix with the recruiter rather than assuming the experienced-hire template.

## September 2026: round mix by role

A SWE onsite can include two AI-coding rounds, two AI-enabled system-design rounds, and one behavioral round after the phone screen. Confirm the number of design slots for the specific opening.

Data Engineering can use a 30-minute Leadership interview plus a separate 60-minute Fullstack session, without a preliminary recruiter call. Production Engineering can instead start with one coding interview and one scenario-based troubleshooting interview.

## September 2026: MSL Research Scientist and MLE tracks

An MSL Research Scientist loop can include a hiring-manager discussion of personal background and prior experience, a coding round, two research-design sessions centered on a previous project and follow-up questions, a separate AI-design interview, and a behavioral interview. Despite the research-design label, the two project sessions can focus on work you have already done. Round durations and ordering were not specified for this format.

The MLE track can combine a coding phone screen, ML-focused coding, ML system design, and behavioral assessment. ML system design is a central part of that track; do not assume its round mix matches the SWE loop. Explain your reasoning during coding, and prepare three or four behavioral stories covering conflict, ownership, and disagree-and-commit situations.

Meta sits mid-transition between two interview loops in 2026. The legacy track still drives most candidates through CodeSignal-style OAs and tightly time-boxed coding rounds, while a new AI-Native loop layers in AI-assisted coding, AI-Enabled system design, and an AI-oriented behavioral round on top. Which track you land in depends on org and recruiter, not candidate preference.
